High Five – The Toddler Magazine

For my daughter’s 2nd birthday a friend presented us with a subscription to High Five magazine.  For those who haven’t heard of it- it’s an early childhood version of the Highlights magazine.  I haven’t seen one of those since I stopped going to the pediatrician but in my memories they were always good for some entertainment.

When the High Fives started arriving at our house each month I simply set them aside.  They held no interest for my daughter because they were clearly not books.

Today however we found time to explore them because today there was no nap.  Grrr.  I was happy to find that they are actually perfect for her level (2 years, 4 months)- she could do the hidden picture activities and her very favorite was the That’s Silly page in each issue.

The holidays are coming and if you’re looking for a toddler gift, a year’s subscription to High Five might be the ticket.  Read about it here.  It’s $35 for one year but if you have two kids you can save the magazines for the 2nd one.  That’s my plan anyway.  The back pages usually have a hands-on activity for the kids that may involve cutting or stapling.  The November issue has a leaf identification memory game that’s pretty neat.

There are also finger plays, activity ideas, and recipes that kids can make.  I might have used one of these recipes for our dinner tonight so clearly they’re good for adults too.  Thanks High Five;)
